Once you’ve tried backpacking, you may want to continue to challenge yourself and try your hand at mountain backpacking. This article will provide you with a few suggestions for making the most of your trip, as well as the best ways to prepare to spend some time exploring nature.
Going to the Appalachian mountains for your backpacking trip can be especially exciting, and no matter what season you decide to travel in, you’ll find lots to do once you arrive. If you take your family with you, you and your loved ones can enjoy biking trails and nature walks during the spring and summer months, and you can also learn about the variety of beautiful plants and flowers in the area that can not only make your home or garden look beautiful, but may even be able to heal certain wounds and help you fight off diseases.
If you want to travel out of the country for your mountain backpacking adventure, you may want to consider going to Bali. The country is known for its beautiful landscape and wildlife, and you can choose from a number of locations to make your backpacking trip a success. Try going to places like Batur, where you’ll find a downhill trail that is vigorous and challenging. Your nature guide will start you off with breakfast, and then you’ll take a trip through the back country that will lead you to the exotic rain forest of Bali. Or, you can take the Campuan Ridge mountain backpacking tour in Bali, where you’ll be able to see a few of the traditional villages that are still left in the country, and interact with the locals.
In order to prepare for your trip, make sure that you have backpacker insurance in case anything goes wrong on the trip. IF you are injured in any way, or get lost while on the trail, you need to know that someone will come to rescue you. Also, it’s a good idea to add a little extra calcium and vitamin C to your diet before the trip, to strengthen your immune system, and your muscles will be able to handle the steep climbs you will have to make. Calcium will also make your bones stronger and help you to combat fatigue while you’re climbing, so you’ll have energy to enjoy your entire trip. Enjoy!

If you’re looking for a great personal protection device that will stop your attackers before they can lay a finger on you, you should check out the Taser X26C. This powerful little taser can take down even the largest of attackers, and it doesn’t take much to have it out and ready. The Taser X26C can hit attackers who are up to 15 feet away from you, and once they get up close, it can function as a stun gun as well, so you’re doubly protected. You will have nothing to fear when you’ve got a Taser X26C at your side.
Tasers have been used by law enforcement for personal protection for years, and they have been show to be 95% effective against all threats. While a stun gun is certainly useful at close range, why ever let your attacker get there? Stop him cold via a non-lethal blast of 50,000 volts of electricity. It doesn’t matter what he is on—drugs, alcohol, or just pure adrenaline—the X26C will make certain he never touches you. It fires out two darts connected to the 15 foot of wire, and then it delivers the jolt. The taser comes with six cartridges, a holster, a practice target, training materials, and more.

A home alarm is all well and good, but what do you do when you’re not a home? You often have property on you that need to be protected, such as your backpack, your purse, or your laptop. And what about yourself? Having some sort of personal alarm on you can be very useful if you’re attacked. The All in One Security Alarm System for One contains everything you’ll need to protect yourself and your personal items when you’re out and about. Whether you’re at a coffee house studying, walking around campus, or out hiking, you’ll easily be able to alert people around you that you need help.
This kit contains four different items. The personal attack alarm hooks on your belt and looks like a pager. However, if you’re attacked, all you have to do is pull the cord and a high pitched alarm and flashing light will go off, alerting those around you that you’re in danger. The backpack/purse alarm has one part that clips to your belt and one on your bag. Then there’s the door and window alarm that will sound if someone breaks in. Finally, the laptop alarm will go off if anyone picks up your laptop.

Think you’re ready to take a shot at backpacking? Do you think that backpacking is an activity that will suit you? Before you get started organizing your trip, there are a couple of things you will be well advised to give some thought to – just to be sure that’s it’s a good idea for you.
Backpacking is more than just a long walk or hike in the woods. You need to think about the supplies you’ll need and what emergency equipment you should have on hand. And there are also some more basic considerations – like what will you put on your feet? Should you start right in on needing a tent and sleeping bags or is a day trip more your style ? Which hiking trails and parks are the best for beginning backpackers? there are lots of backpacking magazines and informative sites on the internet that will give you information on the best brands of tents and sleeping bags. Some will point out where to get discounts on hiking shoes and sandals from brands like Mephisto and Stride Rite. Research and having the right equipment will go a long way to give you confidence you need to be prepared for your nature-inspired vacation.
Next, the length of your trip should help you determine how much you want to carry–for starters, you may want to try lightweight backpacking, and you’ll need to know how to make the most of your trip. A lightweight trip means you should be carrying about twenty pounds or so, so make sure you include things like a blanket (for your ready-made picnic) a flashlight, and extra clothing in case the weather changes. And you’ll always need to carry a first aid kit when you’re travelling in the wilderness.

Many women feel more secure when they carry a powerful means of deterring an attacker. Since firearms can be dangerous – after all, they often end up being used against the very people who turn to them for self-defense – nonlethal weapons are an attractive alternative. They’re very effective, but they won’t result in lasting injuries even if they’re turned against you. But to prevent that from happening in the first place, it’s important that you keep these safety tips in mind if you choose to use a stun gun or a Taser as part of your personal security strategy.
First, it’s essential that you know how many firings your stun gun or Taser’s battery can discharge before it runs out of juice. This information should be listed in your owner’s manual; always recharge the battery if it’s been drained during practice sessions. Avoid discharging the weapon into the air, as this is hard on the battery and can even damage the stun gun or Taser’s working parts. In such a scenario, your warranty may also be voided, and you’ll have to shoulder the repair or replacement costs yourself.
When the gun isn’t in use, it should have its safety switch enabled. This will prevent accidental discharges from jolting you or an innocent bystander. However, that said, you should also be adept in activating the stun gun or Taser quickly, in case you ever need to use it in a real self-defense situation.
You should also know the maximum range for your weapon. Some stun guns require actual physical contact with your assailant, but Tasers can deliver powerful jolts of electricity from several feet away. Many Tasers have a maximum range of about 15 feet, so know what your weapon’s maximum range is and be sure not to fire it before the target is inside that range. Otherwise, your attack may be neutralized, and you won’t have the chance to get another one off before the assailant is upon you.
Generally speaking, the best place to aim is the torso, especially with Tasers. You have the best chance of landing an effective strike if you aim for a broad, generalized portion of the body. Trying to land a precision shot in the neck or groin can result in a misfire, leaving you vulnerable at the worst possible moment.
While most stun guns and Tasers come with detailed user instructions or, in optimal situations, an instructional DVD, it’s still very important that you practice on your own time. Consider taking lessons in your weapon’s proper usage; in fact, self-defense classes for women are an excellent resource for you. When you take them, you’ll learn a wide variety of evasive techniques and counterattacks which will help you if you’re forced into a hand-to-hand combat situation with a would-be assailant.
Many Tasers have backup stun capabilities which can be used even if the battery fails; make sure you know how to activate these backup features, in case you ever need to in a pinch. Finally, law enforcement officials recommend that you not repeatedly stun an attacker after you’ve neutralized him; instead, leave the attacker on the ground, get to a safe place and call police to report the attempted assault right away.
Finally, never rely solely on stun guns or Tasers to provide you with protection. Use car alarms, home security systems and common sense to recognize, avoid and prevent dangerous situations in the first place.

This morning, through an unusual flow of circumstances I found myself searching on the Internet for comments regarding how parents feel about implanting microchips in their children. I can tell you that although it seems that the subject hasn’t come up for discussion a whole heck of a lot recently, parents were overwhelmingly and unhesitatingly in favor of the idea.
I can understand how the parents of young children feel and why they would happily chip their kids if it could possibly foil and abduction attempt. What I had a little more trouble with personally were the parents who wanted to chip their teenagers so they could keep tabs on them. Most of all I was deeply perturbed whenever the words “mandatory, compulsory”and “everyone” entered into the comments.
I was heartened when the parents made a point of addressing the issue of removing the chips once their children reached a certain age. But, I’ll bet you anything that the “mandatory” group, wouldn’t have considered that. In fact, I’ll bet you dollars to donuts that if a program like this became mandatory, removal would not be an option.
Technology that will help to keep us safe is great, but there’s a fine line between safe and under control and we will all be well served to pay close attention to that line.

For someone in their twenties, it’s easy to feel invincible and maybe because of that it’s also easy for some bad health habits to become entrenched. For a lot of people though, and certainly those who are already active and appreciate that their body is the most important piece of tactical gear they will ever own, the little things that can damage their health are the things that will catch them out.
Consider for a moment the sun- OK I’ll grant you that it’s hardly a little thing, but I’ve noticed that many active and I guess you can say somewhat macho guys are – shall we say- not the first to slather on the SPF 35 before venturing forth for a day a hunting, fishing, airsoft or paintball? Not good guys, it’s the little things that will get you in the end.
Another thing that many people ignore are health supplements. I suppose there are a lot of reasons for that and if you have considered reasons, that’s ok. But if it’s just that you’re unaware – that’s not good. One thing that I’ve only recently become aware of is the value of antioxidants (passing 50 will do that for you). I was recently reading about the concept of network antioxidants – 5 of the most powerful free radical fighters that work best in combination with each other. Of this five, the most powerful is an antioxidant that we manufacture ourselves called glutathione it is actually present in every cell in our body. But as we age our bodies produce less of it and you can’t take glutathione as a supplement because it just isn’t readily absorbed. But it’s not a bad idea to do something to address the problem since many of the diseases that are associated with aging come about as a direct result of cell damage and apparently many sufferers show reduced levels of glutathione. I think of it as the master antiaging supplement.
There is a way to up your levels of glutathione though and its by taking a product called MAXGXL which is a glutathione precursor. I’m not a huge lover of supplements myself and I was really skeptical about the value of taking it- you see I have a very simplistic view of health products when it comes to me. If I take something regularly, I expect to feel better. To my wonder, I can tell you I really did feel better after taking MAX GXL for only a week. Hence the mention of a health product to an audience primarily interested in self defense products, gadgets and tactical gear.

I’m constantly on the lookout for new products to add to my personal defense and home safety site and so when I was recently contacted by Glen Bushee of Brite Strike Tactical Illumination Products, I was extremely pleased with what they do. You see, I prefer to carry defense products that are safe to use for everyone and will enable people to effectively defend themselves without necessarily harming anyone in the process.
Tactical Illumination products are ultra high quality LED flashlights that are perfectly suited to serve as personal defense weapons. You see- having a brilliant, white light at your side, especially when the flashlight is only about 4inches long in the first place is a simply wonderful tactical weapon.
A quick flash from something as bright as a 65 lumen LED light will temporarily blind an attacker. – That’s the FLASH part.
While your assailant is temporarily out of commission – that’s where the DASH part comes in and if for some reason you don’t manage to make a clean getaway, these sturdy little lights are designed with a super strong, jagged “lip”around the front of the light that- when brought down with sufficient force on the hand or lower arm of anyone trying to impede your departure will create instant and rather considerable pain.
That’s the BASH part.

The problem with many stun guns is that the potential attacker sees them and attacks in such as a way as to neutralize the stun gun by forcing you to drop it or by holding it away from him. A stun gun simply does no good if your attacker has a plan to make it useless. That’s where the Pretender 950,000 volt cell phone stun gun comes into play. This cleverly disguised device looks just like a normal cell phone. However, it secretly hides a 950,000 volt stun gun within. An attacker may not feel as threatened by a cell phone, and so he won’t focus on getting it away from you. That’s his mistake because once the safety switch is on, all you have to do is press down the trigger switch and hit him with it full on. The Pretender also features a built-in flashlight to help you see where you’re going. On top of all of this, the whole device is less than four inches tall, meaning you can easily fit it in your pocket or conceal it in your hand.
